Migration
Each Spring and Fall they descend on everything. Hundreds and thousands of Blackbirds. In unison they move, like fish in the ocean evading shark attacks. They cover the house, the yard, and the grass – like locusts searching for morsels between blades. I’ve always had in the back of my mind to create a series based on them. Maybe this is the start of a new way of thinking about painting for me, as is the substrate used. These rough cut, joined panels were salvaged from a garage. Before that they were from a construction project with an unknown purpose. I like the texture they provide and the mechanical joining is visually intriguing to me. Enjoy!
