My studio is located in a rural area, although I am a big fan of the city, too. I spend a lot of time exploring my surroundings, always bringing along my sketchbook and camera to document places and things that inspire me the most. Back in the studio, I cull my thousands of photographs and hundreds of sketches looking for that perfect reference to use for my next painting.

I don’t look at my work only as a documentation of a place. In fact, the subject is only a way for me to express an emotion to you through the picture. My work is an open door for you to experience some of the same things I have. But I paint primarily because I love the creation of illusion, the process of design, and allowing the work to develop as it wishes. Sometimes a painting seems to create itself, and I am just a surprised as anyone else about the outcome. That’s when the work and I and God all get together on the same page, so-to-speak, and out comes the highest quality paintings.
