“To an anxiety prone planet of people, I offer Wonder, Form & Spirit. But only to those who share a love of the natural world, a good laugh and good relationships.
I find joy and rejuvenation by exploring our world. If I could package the benefits of wandering, I’d be a rich man. But at the very least, I can offer some of the joy I experience, communicated through the visual art of painting.
Art enhances environments, aids in healing, spurs curiosity and soothes the soul.
Todd Starks creates paintings using a variety of visual languages to talk about emotional space, shape, color, pattern and humor.
With a painterly style, Starks carefully builds up transparent and opaque layers. Using wet into wet oil paint, acrylic paint and drawing media, he allows a visual history of mark making and process to show through. Formally, the pieces are about composition, color harmonies, shape, and texture, yet each piece reveals a sensory and spiritual connection to the natural world around him, and a dynamic interplay between emotional and rational thought.
